    Stranded In Vegas

New Years Eve Day of 1990 I drove my car from California to Las Vegas, Nevada filled with four others I thought were friends at the time. I'll make a long story slightly shorter by telling you that these people left me stranded in Vegas with no money. All I had was the clothes on my back, a pack of cigarettes and my car which did not have enough gas in it to get me back home to California.

It was very late as I walked up, down and past the strip. Most of the pawn places were closed as I tried to sell some gold earrings I had on. The few that were open said they would not give me anything for them. I was offered help by a few men in exchange for "favors." Well because of a slightly sordid past and a promise I had made to God once, I had to refuse that kind of "help."

So I sat in the parking lot of a 7-11 for several hours. The gas attendant inside knew of my problem and allowed me to sit there in my car. At about 3 am an old station wagon came cluncking into the 7-11 station. In it two young men sat. One looked clean shaven, neatly dressed and seemed rather nice. He went inside. The other looked slightly older, quite a bit taller and really scruffy looking. He had on an old army trench coat, rag tag clothes, long, kind of messy hair and a days growth of beard. He got out and walked over to me. He leaned on my window (which I had rolled down), pulled out an old silver lighter and asked me if I had a cigarette. I offered him one of mine and as we shared a smoke, the other young man came over to me.

"The attendant inside says you need some money to get home?" He asked. I told him yes.

"Do you have any jumper cables?" He then asked. I told him yes.

"My battery is messed up and my car keeps dying every block or so. I live up the ways a bit and if you could follow me and keep jumping my car I will give you money to get you home." I was sooo very happy! I almost started to cry! :-)

When that young man walked back to his car the scruffy one leaned in and admired a crystal I had hanging from my mirror. I was soo grateful for the help from him and his friend I asked him if he'd like it. He said it was too pretty to just give away but he would trade me for a stone he wore pinned to his jacket. We traded stones and then he handed me his silver lighter and said "There should be enough fluid in there to get you home."

I told him thank you so much as my own lighter did not work. Then as he stood up he smiled saying "God will get you home safely" and then walked slowly away. I watched as he kept walking past the other young man and gradually disappeared into the darkness. As the other young man and I were getting the cars ready to go I told him to be sure and thank his (scruffy) friend for everything too. He then proceeded to tell me that the scruffy young man was just a hitch-hiker he had picked up along the road. He'd never seen him before. It was at that moment that the tears started welling in my eyes.

    Nancy.com's Angel Story

Well, OK. You asked for it! But it will have to be in parts. After all, it spans my lifetime!

    I'll start with this memory:

I grew up around the lakes of the Adirondack Mtns. At the age of four I thought I could swim because I could go underwater and hold my breath and open my eyes. My parents did not agree with my assessment, and always made me wear a life preserver when I was near the water.

One particular beach that was a favorite picnic spot for us had a steep drop off several feet out from shore, depending on what time of year it was. The lake level would go down during the summer. Anyway, one day I was playing with a small coffee can in the water. Just dipping sand and water up and pouring it out back into the lake. Fascinating stuff to a four yr. old. Well, the darn life jacket wasn't allowing me to scoop down into the water very well because it was holding me up from going under the water and reaching down to get a can full of sand. So, I took it off! I was happily playing under the water. Picking up sand and swishing it around in the water to see how the sand would flow out underwater. I dropped my coffee can. I saw it going down the steep drop off and I went after it. I got it! But I was going down the drop off too. I let the can go and started to try and climb up the drop off while still under water. The sand was slipping beneath my feet and I wasn't getting anywhere! I started to get scared. I was running out of air and I wasn't able to surface.

All of a sudden I was "launched" out of the water. That is the only way I can describe it. I looked up and felt such relief, until I saw my father running down the beach to where I was. Then I got a spanking and a BIG lecture on keeping my life jacket on! Neither one of my parents knew what had went on under that water. I never told them for fear I would be in bigger trouble, but I always remembered it. I knew, even at that tender age, that I had had a very close call!

    Stay tuned for Part II.

    Nancy.com's Angel Story 2

I was a teenager in the 60's. A "wild child". I did all the drugs that the hippies were doing in those days. Marijuana, LSD, Mescaline, Speed....and I was running with a wild crowd. I snuck out of the house as often as I could. And I lied about where I was going when I got permission to go somewhere. My girlfriend and I often told our parents that we were staying at each others house for the night, when we were actually staying out all night. This lead me into some risky behavior, to say the least!

We were 16-17 yrs. old and dating "older men". Guys in their 20's. We didn't drink, but they sure did. My girlfriend's boyfriend was a real "juicer". Back then that meant that you liked alcohol. He drove like a maniac. He had a really hot car and liked to prove it.

One night, he had obviously been drinking and met another guy in the parking lot of the place where we use to hang out who thought his car was faster than the other car. So, a drag race through the "S" curves was arranged. There were 6 of us going to the S curves. It was supposed to be just the two guys racing, but for some unremembered reason to me right now, my girlfriend talked me into riding along with her. She wanted to feel what it was like to be in a race. Against my better judgment, we road along with her boyfriend on the "big race"!

To me, it was horrible and frightening. She was yelling "Whoopee" or something like that, the whole time, so I guess she was enjoying it. I was praying my guts out. "Please God, send my guardian angel to protect me!"

Her boyfriend won the race and on the last curve decided to slam on his breaks and spin around in a 180. Only the 180 turned into a few 360's! I thought we were going to die for sure! My girlfriend was in the passenger side of the front seat, and I was right behind her in the back seat.

When the car stopped spinning, (as well as my head!), I looked out my window and saw that we had stopped about 2" from a telephone pole. I am quite serious about this! Exactly between the passenger's front seat and back seat was a telephone pole just a couple of inches away from my girlfriend and I! I thanked God for sending his angels to save us that night, and learned a valuable lesson. Don't ride with drunks! I got out of the car as soon as he moved it away from the pole and started walking home. Some friends picked me up because I wasn't going to ride with that AH again!

    Part III in the works.

    "Friend"

One hot afternoon when I was 18 yrs old and outside enjoying the weather, one of my old friends (that I didn't like too much...he was the best friend of my baby's father [i was pregnant early in life] ), and a strange person to say the least (there was just something about him that struck me very oddly and wanted to make me not like him), stopped his car in front of my house. He walked over to me and asked me if I wanted to go to the beach with him for a little while. Not really wanting to go with him, I began giving him excuses why I couldn't go ( I was in that powerless time of my life). He wouldn't take no for an answer and suddenly I wondered why this had become so incessantly important to him all of a sudden. I hardly had any dealings with him during my high school years and he was not in my circle of frequent friends. After 1/2 hour of his constant pushing for me to go, I finally agreed, but with an odd feeling of inward dread that I felt inside of me; it almost felt like a danger signal. I momentarily said a silent prayer that God would please get me out of this.

When my "friend" tried to start his car so we could hop in and go, the car wouldn't start. It wouldn't even turn over; in fact, it made no sound whatsoever. This was in itself very strange because his car was relatively new and it had no mechanical problems. When my mother told me (yes...lol...she was still telling me what to do at age 18...you know mothers...they never let you grow up...lol) that I could go to the beach for awhile, she also informed me that dinner would be ready within an hour and a half and to make sure I had returned by then. The beach was only 10 minutes from our home, so I figured I had plenty of time. Wouldn't you know that that car would not start at all the whole time it sat there in front of my house for the entire 1-1/2 hrs my "friend" was there? He finally got his father to come and help him. I went inside to eat my dinner all the while thanking God for making whatever was happening, happen.

Well, the car's problem was discovered within minutes: The distributor wire had been disconnected from the engine, along with a spark plug wire. And since everyone knows they don't just disconnect by themselves, they had to have been pulled. But by whom...or what? Well, the guy went home and I never saw him again until years later.

I moved from MD to VA and guess who I discovered lived in my town? Right--the same male "friend" from whom for whatever reason, and to this day I still believe there was danger involved, the angel saved me from (I believe it was an angel anyway). I was shopping at yard sales when I ran into him and found out that he moved there just recently. He suggested that we get together one eve to remineice our past. By this time I was not afraid of him anymore and I still didn't want to meet with him, but I thought that it would be safe if we met in a public place (Pizza Hut). So I showed up at the appointed time and he never showed. I took a ride to the place where he said he lived and found it occupied by another family. I found that strange and it reminded me of the incident I had with him years ago when his car wouldn't start. It felt like I was being protected from him for some reason.

A year later I ran into him again at a store in our county. He wanted to come to my house for a brief visit. But again, he never showed. The last time I saw him was in the courthouse. His ex-wife was pressing charges against him for beating her. I was amazed but not shocked. The story suddenly made sense. I believe I was being protected from being physically harmed by this person.

I saw him again and again in stores and around the county, but he has never spoken to me again to this day. I have since moved from that place and ran into his mother at a grocery store. She too invited me to come over to her house and visit to remineisce <---can't spell that word...lol, but I never went and never plan to. Growing up in the same neighborhood near his family, I always sensed that something was amiss, and when I saw her again, I sensed it still was. I consider myself fortunate to have angels that protect me like they do. I keep telling myself...there has to be some reason God still wants me here...and it very comforting to know that.

    Wedding Rehearsal

When I was 21 yrs old, just before I got married, we had to do the rehearsal thing for my wedding. I had to pick up one of my bridesmaids since she didn't have a ride. I was unfamiliar with the route to her house since I had never been there before. It was daylight when I arrived at her house. We went to the church and completed the wedding rehearsal and then I had to take her back home. After dropping her off at her house, now pitch dark outside (around 10:30 pm at night), I left her subdivision and proceeded to travel to my own home. There was a 90 degree curve in the road with a steep hill along my side of the road that I had completely forgotten about. I usually drive too fast for my own good and that night, forgetting about the bend in the road, I drove as I usually did...fast. When approaching the sharp curve, I suddenly blanked out for a few seconds, although I was fully conscious at the time of this occurrance. Something...or someone, I should say, and I believe to this day that it was an angel, took a firm hold of my steering wheel and I saw right before me the wheel turning sharply to my left...the same direction of the terrible curve I had forgotten about. I was stunned for a moment as I heard my tires loudly burning rubber to get around that curve and actually felt the power of that angel quickly turning my steering wheel for me. Instantly I realized I was traveling around that bend. Had I been in control of my car, I would have gone off the road and down the hill possibly to my death that night. But for whatever reason, I believe I was saved that night by a guardian or rescuing angel. I have never forgotten that experience and have thanked God for sending someone to help me through it.

I have always believed in angels and the help they provide...Just thought I'd share it with you..and pls if anyone else has an experience to share, I would love to hear it.

    Encounters

I had encounters with angels as early as when I was four years old. We lived in the country then and I usually did my roaming under the supervision of my older siblings. But since they were all in school, I was pretty much free to ramble. One day, I climbed over a fence into a field, attracted by the wild flowers blooming there. What I didn't realize was that the field was pasture to a very cantankerous bull that would charge anything that moved. I lay down under a tree and went to sleep. When I awakened, it was to the sound of the bull's hooves as he came galloping toward me. I was scared, you bet! Just before he reached me, a man was standing between the bull and me. This man put up his hand and the bull came to a skidding stop. The man picked me up and deposited me on the "safe" side of the fence. When I looked up, he was gone. He had suddenly appeared and just as suddenly disappeared. I ran home to tell my mother of my "adventure" and how it ended and she was very skeptical. She reminded me that I had been told not to ever go in that field. Then she asked me to tell her what the man looked like. She listened and then said, "Nobody around here fits that description. You must have been dreaming." I was not asleep when he rescued me. It wasn't until years later, after other encounters, that I came to the realization that an angel had been watching over me.

I have had only one experience with an angel in full angel regalia. Most of the time, it is a matter of escaping some danger and realizing that my rescuer was an angel who manifested as a human. Sometimes, I wasn't in any danger but simply worried about something and one of my angels would play pranks on me, just to make me laugh. Often they did things just to let me know they are with me. When driving, I have often felt that I had an angel in the passenger seat.

Yes, my own experience with angels goes back a long, long time. Knowing they are around has given me a feeling of security and I know that anytime I call for help in something, they are there, although I don't have to call for them - they just know when I need help. All of this is certainly not PROOF that angels do exist, because it is just my word and for all you know I might have a vivid imagination or hallucinations or some such. But it works for me!

    A Stranger

My family is very traditional Catholic and while this has its downfalls it was also a strong faith to be raised in. One of the beliefs that my family lived by was that everyone was always welcome in our house strangers included. One day in fall when my family was experiencing some financial difficulties, a stranger showed up at our house, now we live in a small town and not very near the main roads so we didn't see many hitch hikers. My mom invited this man to dinner and he stayed and ate with us and then my dad and he went into the living room and settled down to talk. There is always a big bible on the table and the man picked it up and started reading, he and my father were talking about different stories from the bible and this lasted several hours. The man didn't have enough money to get "home" and my dad opened his wallet and only had 20 dollars till the end of the week and he gave the man the 20 dollar bill and said he wished he had more, He even asked all of us to look and see if we had any money (we were in high school and had jobs), none of us had any cash so the poor guy had to settle for the 20. He stood up and shook my dad's hand and then left. The next morning my mom was moving the Bible to it's resting place and 2 twenty dollar bills fell out of the bible! She asked my dad if he had put the money there and he hadn't and none of us had any money so it must have been our stranger because it wasn't there the night before.

this was an every day miracle for my family and we think we were entertaining an "angel" -

Does anyone know that quote about strangers and angels? I can't remember exactly how it goes and would like to have it - thanks.

I just wanted to contribute a small story about "angels"- let us remember to be kind to all. =)

    Daughter's Birth

I have had several experiences that I can only attribute to some kind of higher power or at least the higher conciousness to interpret a message from them....or it.... One of my most powerful experiences was the birth of my last daughter.

I was at lunch with my mother 6 weeks prior to my delivery date and got a strange sensation. Not pain and not illness....just an uneasyness that literally flooded my whole being. I wasn't comfortable in my own body almost....I couldn't pinpoint the feeling then and I certainly can't now but something wasn't right. We had been out shopping and it had been a casual day....I mentioned while we were eating that since we were so close to the doctors we should stop in.....She immediately worried that I didn't feel well, but I assured her that I felt fine in the physical sense....just something was gnawing at me...

We did stop in to the doctors and they gave me a brief checkup and said that everything was fine....The "voice" in my head, for lack of a better term, got more insistant that I did not leave to go home. The doctor finally got to the point of being very exasperated with me and basically told me I was making a nuisance of myself.

He called in another doctor, I think just to keep from losing his temper. The other doctor re-examined me and did an ultrasound. He found that every time the baby moved her heartrate dropped when it should have sped up.

Evidently when the first doctor listened for her heartrate it was fine because she wasn't moving. He immediately called the hospital and they rushed me over within minutes...

The umbilical cord was wrapped around her neck and she was choking herself. He told me afterwards that she would have died that afternoon had I not stopped in.

She was delievered by C-section 6 weeks early and spent a month in the neo-natal unit at Dartmouth before coming home.

I was in a hospital in Manchester. They put me in a room alone because they didn't think she was going to make it and I guess they didn't want me to have to deal with all the other mother's and babies while I was waiting for news....

She did pull through and came home at 4 lbs.

Now she is a strapping, tomboy 12 year old girl, quick to smile, hug and laugh. I have to say that she seems to have a spark in her that makes her enjoy life more than most of us....I think that she might have been "touched" by an angel ....
